Texas.gov Introduces First Android Mobile App

State responds to growing number of Android mobile users in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas – April 13, 2011 —Texas.gov, the official website of the State of Texas, has launched its first Android mobile app in response to the rapidly growing Android market. With the Texas.gov Android app, users can:

  • Browse an easy-to-use site specifically designed for a mobile screen;
  • Find Texas government information via enhanced search functionality;
  • Locate government offices complete with a map;
  • View pictures of Texas culture and landscapes;
  • Ask questions or help others by providing an answer; and
  • Connect with Texas government through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Flickr.

"In the first two months of 2011, nearly 40,000 visits to Texas.gov were from a mobile device. Of these visits, 37% were from an Android. In response to this growing trend, it is important for us to continuously provide Texans with new tools that allow them to conveniently access government information and services on their mobile devices," said Doug Holt, Deputy Executive Director, Department of Information Resources.

In addition to the Android mobile app, Texas.gov also offers an iPhone app. Texas.gov offers a quick, convenient, and fuel-efficient way for Texans to access more than 1,000 online services, including Driver License Renewal, Vehicle Registration Renewal, Birth Certificate Orders, Concealed Handgun Licenses, and more.
