Texans: On-demand Driver Records Now Available Online
Obtaining a Certified Driver Record Now Takes Minutes Instead of Weeks.
AUSTIN, Texas – November 29, 2010 —Texas drivers can now order and print their own online driver records rather than having them delivered by mail. Texas.gov, the official Web site of the State of Texas, in partnership with Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), has launched an enhanced online Driver Record Request System, bringing the driver record process down from weeks to minutes. All driver record types are available online, including certified records that are acceptable for defensive driving courses.
“We are proud to offer a service that saves time and money for both Texas drivers and DPS,” said DPS Assistant Director Rebecca Davio. “Texans no longer run the risk of missing court deadlines because they’re waiting to receive their driver record in the mail.” Each year, DPS receives an average of 12 million driver record requests. Before the on-demand Driver Record System was launched, DPS staff printed and mailed every record, even if the request was made online.
All Texas drivers, including commercial driver license holders, are eligible to use the online Driver Record System. To request a record, drivers must provide authentication information from their Texas driver license or ID and the last four digits of their social security number. Orders also require a credit card and access to a working printer.
In addition to on-demand driver records, Texas.gov and DPS have introduced two other online services in the past six months: Concealed Handgun Licensing and Contractor Driver Record Requests. Texas.gov also offers an easy, convenient way for Texans to access more than 1,000 other online services, including Driver License Renewal, Vehicle Registration Renewal, and Birth Certificate Orders. Users can even access Texas.gov on-the-go through the Texas.gov iPhone application.
